RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve community outreach expenditure of $3,000 for sponsorship of one (1) table at the Gala of Wishes, hosted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, per Administrative Policy No. 75.
REPORT
Approval of this item is for the expenditure of $3,000 to assist Central Valley Leadership in support of the fundraising event. This item was approved by County Counsel as an appropriate expenditure as outlined in Administrative Policy No. 75.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
Your board can choose not to authorize District 2's sponsorship of the event.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in net county cost associated with the recommended action. Sufficient appropriations are included in the proposed budget for the FY 2023-24 within the Board of Supervisors Org 0110.
DISCUSSION:
On August 8, 2017, the Board approved Administrative Policy No. 75 to allow individual Supervisors to expend portions of their individual budgets for community outreach services and programs. This expenditure to sponsor a table at the Gala of Wishes, hosted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, was sent to the County Counsel for review and approval. County Counsel deemed it an appropriate expenditure under the Administrative Policy No. 75 guidelines.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit who endeavors to grant the wish of children diagnosed with critical illnesses. These wishes give hope to children when they need it the most battling their illnesses, and these wishes are often seen as the turning point in a child's return to health. Since it was founded in 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted more than a half-million wishes worldwide. Regionally 235 children are at currently waiting for a wish, the majority referred from Valley Children's Hospital.
