DISCUSSION:
On June 24, 2024 and June 25, 2024, multiple lightning strikes in eastern Fresno County ignited the 2024 Fresno June Lightning Complex Fire, comprising of the Bolt, Hog, Flash fires, as well as some smaller fires. The fire spread necessitated the proclamation of a local emergency by the Fresno County Emergency Services Director on June 26, 2024, pursuant to Government Code (GC) ?8630 and County Ordinance, Chapter 2.44. The Board subsequently ratified this proclamation and adopted resolution No. 24-0771 on June 28, 2024. To support firefighting efforts and assist evacuees, the County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated on June 26, 2024.
On July 1, 2024, all evacuation orders were lifted, allowing the EOC to successfully transition out of operation as evacuees safely departed designated shelters. On July 6, 2024, the 2024 June Lightning Complex Fire was at 100% containment. Therefore, it is recommended that the local emergency be terminated in Fresno County. Approval of the recommended Resolution will officially terminate the local emergency, consistent with State law which requires termination at the earliest possible date.
