SUBJECT: Resolution accepting monetary donation from the Woodward Park and Caruthers Chapters of Friends of the Library
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Adopt Resolution accepting and expressing gratitude for the monetary donation of $31,700 from Friends of the Library to purchase furniture for the Woodward Park and Caruthers libraries during FY 2016-17; and
2. Adopt Budget Resolution increasing the FY 2016-17 appropriations and estimated revenues for the County Library Book Fund Org 7521 in the amount of $31,700 (4/5 vote).
REPORT
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. The first recommended action is required to satisfy the reporting requirements under Chapter 762.12 of the CAO Management Directives for donations greater than $500.00 in value. The approval of the recommended actions will allow the Library to accept a donation from Friends of the Library to purchase new library branch furniture for the Woodward Park and Caruthers libraries during FY 2016-17.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
Your Board may choose to not accept the donation from Friends of the Library. If the donation is not accepted, worn library branch furniture at the Woodward Park and Caruthers libraries will not be replaced with new furniture.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. Upon approval, the donation will be accepted and the items will be purchased in FY 2016-17. Approval of the second recommended action will increase the FY 2016-17 appropriations and estimated revenues for the County Library Book Fund Org 7521 in the amount of $31,700 to replace small furniture for public use at the Woodward Park and Caruthers library branches.
DISCUSSION:
Friends of the Woodward Park and Caruthers libraries are subsidiary chapters of Friends of the Library. The goal of Friends of the Library is to support branch library operations. They have done this by supporting library programs and special projects through the sale of donated books at the library.
Friends of the Library would like to contribute $31,700 to purchase 20 meeting room chairs and 30 tables for the Woodward Park Regional Library and 19 chairs for public use at the Caruthers Branch Library. The respective chapters would like to contribute $27,000 for the Woodward Park Regional Library and $4,700 for the Caruthers Branch Library.
The Library has a steady demand for use of public seating in reading rooms, study rooms, meeting spaces and computer rooms. For the Woodward Park Regional Library, the purchase will replace worn existing tables and chairs that are over 14 years old in study and meeting rooms. For the Caruthers Branch Library, the wooden chairs will replace worn fabric chairs that are over ten years old in the reading, general seating and computer areas.
