TITLE

Adopt Resolution retroactively accepting and expressing gratitude for a donation of art valued at $10,500 for the Fresno County Public Library.

REPORT

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. The recommended action is required to satisfy the reporting requirements under Chapter 762.12 of the CAO Management Directives for donations greater than $7,500 in value. Approval of the recommended action will allow the Fresno County Public Library to accept a book, sketches, letters and artwork by Leo Politi with a total value of $10,500 to be displayed at the Politi Branch Library.  The Politi Branch Library is located in District two; however, the donation would benefit the whole County.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

Your Board may choose to not accept the donation.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action.  The non-monetary donation has a value of $10,500.

DISCUSSION:

The Politi Branch Library opened in 1974 to service the growing Fresno northern corridor.  The library was named in honor of Leo Politi, a renowned children’s author, Caldecott Award winner and Fresno native.  The Politi Branch Library is known for its collection of Leo Politi books and artwork.

In November 2017, the Library received a donation from David Rice, Barbara Rice and Amanda Abarbanel-Rice of original artwork, hand-written letters, sketches and a book by Leo Politi.  The timing of the donation coincided with the public celebration of Leo Politi’s birthday at the Politi Branch Library.  The artwork is valued at $10,500 and is currently in storage at the Politi Branch Library.  Upon Board approval, the artwork will be accepted and placed on permanent display at the Politi Branch Library.

DONOR DISCLOSURES:

To satisfy reporting requirements under Administrative Policy 60 for donations greater than $7,500 in value, the following is provided:

                     David Rice, Barbara Rice and Amanda Abarbanel-Rice are not a County contractor or principal in a business, agency or organization providing contracted services within the County.

                     David Rice, Barbara Rice and Amanda Abarbanel-Rice are not a contractor that has bid on a County contract in the last 12 months.

                     The Fresno County Library has no knowledge that the donors will bid on any County contract within the next twelve months.

                     David Rice, Barbara Rice and Amanda Abarbanel-Rice have provided a donation of Politi art with a value of $10,500, which will be used to decorate the Politi Branch Library.
