SUBJECT:                     Salary Resolution Amendment

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):

TITLE

Approve Salary Resolution Amendment adjusting the salary of the Special District Attorney Investigator and Special Probation Investigator classifications in accordance with Footnote 4 of the Salary Resolution, effective July 25, 2022, as reflected on Appendix “H”.

REPORT

There is a $2,979 increase in Net County Cost (NCC) associated with the recommended action for FY 2022-23. Approval of the recommended action would adjust the salary of the Special District Attorney Investigator to match the Senior District Attorney Investigator, Step 1 and adjust the Special Probation Investigator to match the Deputy Probation Officer IV, Step 2 per Footnote 4 of the Salary Resolution. This item impacts the District Attorney’s Office and Probation Department.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

The recommended action is required by Footnote 4 of the Salary Resolution. There is no alternative action.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total estimated cost of the salary adjustment for FY 2022-23 is approximately $4,593 ($2,979 NCC).  The total estimated cost of the salary adjustment for FY 2023-24 is approximately $2,929 ($1,894 NCC). Sufficient appropriations will be included on each department’s FY 2022-23 budget requests.

DISCUSSION:

The Special District Attorney Investigator and Special Probation Investigator classifications are Extra Help classifications that have no permanent-status counterpart and therefore are not otherwise impacted by salary changes made to either represented or unrepresented employee groups. To ensure that the classifications still receive salary adjustments, they are included in Footnote 4 of the Salary Resolution and tied to represented classifications. The Special District Attorney Investigator is tied in salary to the Senior District Attorney Investigator, Step 1 and the Special Probation investigator is tied in salary to the Deputy Probation Officer IV, Step 2. The bargaining units for the tied classifications have recently received salary adjustments, triggering the recommended action. These adjustments will set the salary for the Special District Attorney Investigator classification at $40.80 hourly effective July 25, 2022, $43.25 hourly effective June 12, 2023, $45.85 hourly effective June 10, 2024, and the salary for the Special Probation Investigator classification at $33.7750 hourly effective July 25, 2022, $34.7875 hourly effective April 17, 2023, and $35.8375 hourly effective April 15, 2024.
