RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):

TITLE

Approve and authorize the Clerk of the Board to execute Budget Transfer No. 20 transferring FY 2020-21 appropriations in the amount of $200,000 within the Department of Public Works and Planning, Org 4510, from account 7220 (Maintenance - Buildings & Grounds) to Account 8150 (Structures & Improvements) for a facility improvement project.

REPORT

The recommended action will allow the Department of Public Works and Planning, Road Maintenance & Operations (Department) to transfer appropriations of $200,000 to purchase one steel building to store valuable assets.  This item pertains to location in District 4.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

If your Board does not approve the recommended action, the Department would not be able to purchase the steel building, which would impact the Department’s ability to further protect valuable assets like vehicles and road materials.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended action.  Approval of the recommended action will allow the transfer of existing FY 2020-21 appropriations in the amount of $200,000 from Account 7220 (Maintenance - Buildings & Grounds) to Account 8150 (Structures & Improvements).

DISCUSSION:

The Department is proposing to acquire and construct a 3,300 square foot steel building at the Road Maintenance & Operations road yard located in Sanger, CA to store valuable assets.  The road yard is a County-owned property.  The steel building will provide extra storage space to the large office/shed building on the property.  It will protect against harmful elements like weather and is a cost savings option to other building install types such as wood buildings that are generally less expensive to purchase but deteriorate faster, thus requiring an increase in maintenance expenses.  The Department is working with the Department of Internal Services, Purchasing Division, for procurement.  In addition, the Department will also obtain any necessary land use clearance, permits and/or inspections.
