FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. Sufficient appropriations are included in the Board of Supervisors Org 0110 FY 2026-27 Recommended Budget.
DISCUSSION:
Approval of the recommended action will authorize the expenditure of $21,000, in support of the 2026 Traffic Safety Campaign, which includes community public service announcements to go on Univision, Meta/Google, and Outfront platforms. The goal of the 2026 Traffic Safety Campaign is to raise awareness and reduce traffic fatalities in Fresno County related to DUIs, distracting driving (texting) and speeding.
The 2026 Traffic Safety Campaign will run from Thanksgiving week to New Year’s Day and beyond, and correlates with the time period that the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Fresno Area Office and other law enforcement agencies investigate numerous fatal collisions in the area. The top reasons for the Fresno County fatalities during the holiday season include driving while under the influence, texting, distracted driving, or speeding. The 2026 Traffic Safety Campaign will raise awareness throughout the County and specifically target men in their teens, 20’s, and 50’s, about the dangers of driving while under the influence, texting, and speeding. Messaging will be in both English and Spanish.
Vendors include Outfront Media Inc. (rural and City of Fresno billboards), Univision (Spanish-language TV and digital), and Google and Meta Platforms, Inc. (boosting on social media).
