DISCUSSION:
On June 27, 2023, the text of SB-101 was chaptered by the California Secretary of State enacting the California Budget Act of 2023 which included funding for various FY 2023-24 community projects throughout Fresno County. In addition, several other budget bills (AB 102 and AB 103) were also chaptered providing supplementary funding for numerous other projects within the County.
Although funding was included for a number of projects throughout Fresno County, these bills included funding for the following specific community project requests made by the County:
• Cantua Creek and El Porvenir Improvements Project ($2 million)
• This project focuses on the improvement of streets, sidewalks, and drainage facilities in the rural, impacted communities of Cantua Creek and El Porvenir to address flooding risks while improving safety and accessibility. Street repairs, curb ramps, and drainage facilities will be installed in addition to construction of sidewalks leading to Cantua Creek Elementary.
• Tranquility Complete Streets Project ($3 million)
• This project provides essential facilities by reconstructing streets, building sidewalks/bike lanes, and making ADA improvements.
• Emergency Egress Routes Project ($1 million)
• This project will clear vegetation and dead trees along 23 emergency evacuation roads to ensure a safe route for residents and first responders in case of emergencies such as wildfires.
The County of Fresno is appreciative of the State Legislative Delegation’s efforts for the County by their continued support and diligent work to secure the critical funding/resources to provide necessary infrastructure improvements for the residents of the County.
