RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Appointment of James Kus as Fresno County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to fill vacancy resulting from retirement of incumbent, effective March 1, 2021 through January 2, 2023.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will allow the Fresno County Board of Supervisors to appoint James Kus as the Fresno County Clerk/Registrar of Voters for the remainder of the term which expires on January 2, 2023. This item is Countywide

Should your board not approve the recommended action, the position will remain vacant.

DISCUSSION:
Brandi Orth, the elected Fresno County Clerk/Registrar of Voters resigned from her office mid-term effective February 28, 2021 creating a vacancy in this office. Pursuant to California law and Section 23 of the Fresno County Charter, the Board of Supervisors is empowered to make the appointment of a new County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to fil the remainder of the term which expires at the end of 2022. Following a recruitment process conducted under the supervision of a sub-committee of the Board of Supervisors involving numerous candidates, James Kus, the current Assistant County Clerk/Registrar of Voters was determined to be the best candidate to fill the remainder of the vacant office’s term.
