TO: Board of Supervisors
SUBMITTED BY: Chairman Nathan Magsig
SUBJECT: Letter to Request an Increase in Caltrans Funding for Freeway Maintenance
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Authorize the Board of Supervisors to sign a letter to the Governor requesting that the California Department of Transportation increase funding allocations for ongoing freeway cleaning and maintenance in the Fresno-Clovis metropolitan area.
REPORT
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
The Board can decide against authorizing the letter to request an increase in Caltrans funding for freeway cleaning and maintenance.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
DISCUSSION:
California State Senator Andreas Borgeas of the 8th District is working to allocate more California Department of Transportation resources to our area for ongoing freeway cleaning and maintenance. Currently there are 20 State employees assigned to the maintenance of 1,100 acres of landscaping in the Fresno and Clovis region. This letter would encourage the State of California to supplement current efforts to maintain our roadways with additional funding for staffing, equipment and other needs.
