Title: 1. SUBJECT: Retroactive Grant Application for Intensive Probation Supervision of High-Risk Felony and Repeat DUI Offenders and Grant Agreement with the Office of Traffic Safety

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Retroactively authorize the Chief Probation Officer's previous submittal of a grant application for California Office of Traffic Safety's Intensive Probation Supervision of High-Risk Felony and Repeat DUI Offenders Program, to fund Probation's Repeat DUI caseload positions for the period of October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020; and
2. Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute a grant agreement with California Office of Traffic Safety (Grant Number AL20013) to provide Intensive Probation Supervision for High-Risk Felony and Repeat DUI Offenders for the period of October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020 ($278,400).
REPORT
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) High-Risk Felony and Repeat DUI Offenders (Repeat DUI) funding allows for continuation of the Probation Department's Repeat DUI program, originally funded by OTS in 2006. To meet the grant application deadline of January 30, 2019, the Department submitted the application on January 30, 2019, contingent upon your Board's approval. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

If the recommended actions are not approved, the grant agreement will be returned to OTS. The loss of these grant funds will result in the elimination of two Deputy Probation Officer positions. Therefore, high-risk felony and Repeat DUI offenders will no longer receive the intensive supervision currently provided.

FISCAL IMPACT:
