RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve community outreach expenditure of $20,000 to sponsor and support Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central California, Fresno, per Administration Policy No. 75.
REPORT
Approval of this item is for the expenditure of $20,000 to sponsor and support Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central California, Fresno. Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a non-profit organization that matches youth with one on one mentoring relationships with adult volunteers. These matches provide children with positive role models, self-confidence, better academic performance and stronger life skills.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
Your Board can choose not to authorize support of District Four's donation to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central California, Fresno.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. Sufficient appropriations are included in the Board of Supervisors Org. 0110 FY 2026-27 Recommended Budget.
DISCUSSION:
On August 8, 2017, the Board approved Administrative Policy No. 75 to allow individual Supervisors to expend portions of their individual budgets for community outreach services and programs.
On March 11, 2025, your Board approved a revision to Administrative Policy No. 75 to require Board approval on non-county business donations in excess of $1,500.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California is a long-standing 501(c)(3) organization that provides one-to-one mentoring for youth ages 6 through 18. The program pairs local adult volunteers with youth to help build self-confidence, strengthen life skills, and support positive long-term outcomes. The organization has served the region for more than 50 years and continues to offer structured mentor support and youth development activities throughout Fresno County.
