SUBJECT: Approve Amendment to the Salary Resolution to add a Department Business Manager position with no increase in total number of positions in the department

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Approve Amendment to the Salary Resolution adding one Departmental Business Manager position without increasing total positions allocated to the department, Effective December 11, 2023, as reflected in Appendix E; and
2. Approve Amendment to the Salary Resolution establishing the salary of the Departmental Business Manager effective December 11, 2023, as reflected in Appendix E.
REPORT
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions, which will add one Departmental Business Manager position to manage the business and fiscal functions of the County Counsel's Office, with no increase to the total positions allocated to the department. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

The Board of Supervisor could decline to amend the Salary Resolution in which case the new position of Departmental Business Manager will not be added to the department and certain fiscal and operational tasks will continue to be handled by management attorneys in the office with the assistance of the office accountant.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. The additional position will not increase the total number of positions in the County Counsel Office. The Departmental Business Manager position will be covered by salary savings of a portion of the vacant Principal Deputy County Counsel position which will not be filled at that level in the immediate future and other vacant Deputy County Counsel positions.
