SUBJECT: Fresno County Ordinance Code Amendment to Include Fire Hazard Severity Zones
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Conduct first hearing to retitle and amend Chapter 15.60 - State Responsibility Area Fire Safe Regulations of the County of the Ordinance Code of Fresno County to include the Fire Hazard Severity Zones within the County as adopted by the State Fire Marshal; waive the reading of the Ordinance in its entirety; and set the second hearing for June 24, 2025;
2. Designate County Counsel to prepare a fair and adequate summary of the proposed Ordinance; and
3. Direct the Clerk of the Board to post and publish the required summary in accordance with Government Code, Section 25124(b)(1).
REPORT
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. Approval of the first recommended action will conduct the first hearing and set the second hearing to revise Chapter 15.60 - State Responsibility Area Fire Safe Regulations of the County to adopt the Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) map identified by the State Fire Marshal and in accordance with Government Code section 51179. Additionally, since Government Code section 51179 requires local agencies to adopt an ordinance reflecting the "moderate," "high" and "very high" FHSZs within its jurisdiction, the first recommended action proposes to retitle Chapter 15.60 from "State Responsibility Area Fire Safe Regulations of the County" to "State Responsibility Area and Local Responsibility Area Fire Safe Regulations of the County" to summarize the additional language staff are proposing to add to this Chapter. This item is countywide.
