SUBJECT: Response to 2023-24 Fresno County Civil Grand Jury Final Report No. 4

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS:
TITLE
1. Review the findings and recommendations of the 2023-24 Fresno County Civil Grand Jury Final Report No. 4, "Eat at Your Own Risk: The Quiet Reality of Health Inspections in Fresno County" and adopt the recommended responses; and

2. Order the Board's responses to the 2023-24 Fresno County Civil Grand Jury Final Report No. 4 be filed with the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court.
REPORT
On July 17, 2024, the Fresno County Civil Grand Jury (Grand Jury) filed the 2023-24 Final Report No. 4, which examined Fresno County's food facility inspection practices. The Grand Jury requested responses from your Board to Findings F1 - F9 and Recommendations R1 - R10, which are within the County's scope of responsibility. Recommended responses are included in Attachment A for your Board's consideration. Upon adoption by your Board, responses will be submitted to the Presiding Judge.

Additionally, the Grand Jury invited responses from the County's County Administrative Office, the Director of the Fresno County Department of Public Health, and the Division Manager of the Environmental Health Division. A consolidated report from the County Administrative Officer including input from all of the aforementioned individuals was prepared and submitted to the Presiding Judge on September 9, 2024, and is included as Attachment B.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

There is no alternative action. California Penal Code, section 933(c) requires that your Board respond to the Presiding Judge within 90 days.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions.
