SUBJECT: Approve and Authorize Submission of the Moving California Oral Health Forward Grant Application

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve and authorize the Department of Public Health to submit a grant application to the State of California, Health and Human Services Agency, California Department of Public Health, Office of Oral Health for continued funding of the Local Oral Health Program Grant Initiative effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2027 ($2,644,280).
REPORT
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. Approval of the recommended action will allow the Department of Public Health (Department) to submit a grant application for approximately $2,644,280 in the California Healthcare, Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016, Proposition 56 (Prop 56) funds. If awarded, the funds are to be utilized by the local health jurisdictions (LHJ) local oral health programs (LOHP) to educate, prevent, and provide linkages to treatment programs, including dental disease caused by cigarettes and other tobacco products. The application will be submitted on-line to the Office of Oral Health (OOH) by the application deadline of December 15, 2021. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

If the Board does not approve the recommended action, the County will not be eligible for funding of approximately $2,644,280 and would not be able to continue funding of the LOHP.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. There is no County match requirement for receipt of grant funds. For FY 2022-23, the estimated annual allocation is $528,856; $2,644,280 for the term. If the grant application is approved, the Department will return to the Board with any necessary resolutions.
