SUBJECT: Delegation of Authority to Sheriff to Execute Agreements for Sheriff's Office Protection at Events or Activities

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt a Resolution approving and authorizing the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator to execute agreements with public and private entities for the Sheriff's Office to provide law enforcement protection services at events or activities substantially in the agreement form attached to this item, or such other agreement form agreed to by the Sheriff's Office and the County Counsel's Office.

REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will authorize the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator (Sheriff) to execute agreements to provide Sheriff's Office protection services at events or activities upon request by cities, schools, special districts, public entities, and private entities.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION:

Your Board can elect not to approve this item; in that event, the Sheriff's signature authority would remain confined to execution of agreements with public entities for protection at public events or activities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no increase in net County cost associated with the recommended actions. These agreements contain provisions for reimbursement of expenses to the Sheriff's Office for hours of service provided by Sheriff's Deputies and vehicular mileage incurred in the performance of the agreement.

DISCUSSION:

From time to time, the Sheriff's Office receives requests from cities, schools, special districts and private entities to provide law enforcement protection services at events or activities at the expense of the entity sponsoring the event.
