1. SUBJECT: Retroactive Grant Application and Agreement with the State of
California Office of Traffic Safety for Intensive Probation Supervision for
High-Risk Felony and Repeat DUI Offenders

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Retroactively approve and authorize the Chief Probation Officer's previous submittal of a grant application to the State of California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for the Probation Department's 2025 Intensive Supervision of High-Risk Felony and Repeat DUI Offenders (Repeat DUI) Program ($343,000); and
2. Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute a Retroactive Grant Agreement with OTS (Grant Number AL25022), with an electronic signature, to provide Intensive Probation Supervision for Repeat DUI Offenders for the period of October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025 ($343,000).
REPORT
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. The OTS Repeat DUI funding allows for continuation of the Probation Department's Repeat DUI Program, originally funded by OTS in 2006. To meet the grant application deadline of January 31, 2024, the Department submitted the application on January 30, 2024, contingent upon your Board's approval. The second recommended action will approve a retroactive Agreement with OTS, effective October 1, 2024. OTS requires an electronic signature to execute the recommended grant agreement. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

If the recommended actions are not approved, the grant agreement will be returned to OTS. The loss of these grant funds will result in the elimination of two Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) positions unless an alternative source of funding is found. In such an event, high-risk felony and Repeat DUI offenders would no longer receive the intensive supervision currently provided.
