SUBJECT: Stop Signs at Four Intersections in Fresno County
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt Resolution designating four intersections within Fresno County as stop intersections, authorizing additional stop signs making them all-way stops.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will allow the installation of additional stop traffic controls at four locations identified in the proposed resolution making them all-way stop intersections, improving traffic safety by requiring vehicles to stop from all approaches. This item pertains to locations in District 4.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
If the recommended action is not approved by your Board, the traffic controls at the four intersections will remain unchanged.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. The estimated cost to perform the work is $1,870 for materials and $2,070 for equipment and labor for a total of $3,940, which will be performed by the Department of Public Works and Planning. Sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues are included in the Department's - Roads Org 4510 FY 2021-22 Adopted Budget.
DISCUSSION:
Stop controls can be useful as a safety measure at intersections where certain traffic conditions exist. When the Department considers stop control at an intersection, it conducts an engineering study pursuant to guidelines in the California Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The engineering study may consider criteria such as collision history, traffic volume, traffic delay, line of sight, or any combination of the foregoing. Based upon the study, the Department may make a recommendation regarding the installation of Stop signs.
