SUBJECT: Adopt Title VI Implementation Plan

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute Resolution adopting the Public Works and Planning Title VI Implementation Plan, in order for the County of Fresno to remain eligible for funding opportunities; and approve and authorize the Chairman to execute the Planning Title VI Implementation Plan.
REPORT
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. Approval of the recommended action will authorize the Chairman to execute a resolution adopting the Title VI Implementation Plan which ensures nondiscrimination in all of the Department of Public Works and Planning activities and programs and help maintain eligibility for future funding opportunities. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

Your Board may choose not to approve the Title VI Plan, which may result in the Department remaining noncompliant or require staff to make changes to the plan. If the recommended action is not approved, any future grant applications would not be in compliance.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action.

DISCUSSION:

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related statutes prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin, sex, age, disability or socio-economic status in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance. Specifically, Title VI provides that "no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" (42 U.S.C.
