SUBJECT: Letter to the Governor - Restoration of City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Plan Fund
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Authorize the Board of Supervisors to execute a letter in support of restoring the allocation of $200 million to a total of $250 million in the City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Fund.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will allow all five Board members to execute a letter to the Governor requesting restoration of funding to the City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Fund. This item is countywide.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
If your Board does not approve the recommended action, a letter requesting restoration of the allocation to the City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Fund will not be sent.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. Authorization of the recommended action will indicate the County's support for the restoration of funds to the City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Fund.
DISCUSSION:
The purpose of the Board's letter to the Governor is to request restoration of the allocation of funding in the City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Plan.
The Governor originally reallocated $250 million in his May revise budget from the Local Government Sustainability Fund, which was intended to support areas with high unemployment and poverty to develop a more climate-resilient local economy and pursue economic diversification initiatives to the City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Plan. The Legislature's 2023-24 State budget proposes to reduce and reallocate $200 million from the City of Fresno's Public Infrastructure Plan to other budgetary needs leaving a balance of $50 million for the City's Plan.
