RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):

TITLE

Approve and Authorize the use of Board of Supervisor District 5 funds in the amount of $5,000 for Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Company 68 to aid in the replacement of a barbecue and accessories which were destroyed in the Creek Fire.

REPORT

Approval of the recommended action will provide funds to the Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Company 68 to replace barbecue equipment that was destroyed in the Creek Fire.  This item pertains to a location in District 5.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

The Board could choose not to approve the recommended action.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. Sufficient appropriations ($5,000) are included in the FY 2020-2021 Adopted Budget under the Board of Supervisors Org 01100105.

DISCUSSION:

The Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department (PRVFD) will not be able to hold their annual tri-tip barbecue at Camp Edison this Fourth of July due to the devastating impact of the Creek Fire on both the PRVFD and its members. Not only did the majority of the fire department members lose their homes and fire suppression equipment in the fire, but they also lost all of their equipment and supplies for the barbecue in the fire. Their plan is to replenish their supplies and equipment over the next year so that they will be able to have the tri-tip barbecue in 2022. PRVFD is the only fire department in Fresno County which receives no funding, and which relies solely on donations.

On August 8, 2017, the Board approved Administrative Policy No. 75, Community Outreach Services.  Per Administrative Policy No. 75, this item was submitted to County Counsel for review and approval.  County Counsel has deemed that the foregoing is a legal expenditure of public funds.
