SUBJECT: Special Election to Fill a Vacancy in the Board of Supervisors
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Adopt a Resolution approving the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to conduct a special election on March 5, 2019 to fill a Board member vacancy representing District 2 on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors for the period of 2019 through 2020;
2. Adopt a Resolution approving the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to conduct a runoff election on June 4, 2019 between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes cast in the March 5, 2019 special election in the event that no candidate receives a majority (50% + 1) of all the votes cast in the March 5, 2019 special election; and
3. Adopt Budget Resolution increasing the FY 2018-19 appropriations for County Clerk-Elections Org 2850 in the amount of $250,000, using available Fund Balance in the General Fund 0001, to fund the special election.
REPORT
Approval of the first and third recommended actions will allow the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to conduct a Special Election to be held on March 5, 2019 to fill the vacancy for District 2 of the Board of Supervisors. The current vacancy is due to the resignation of a Board member effective December 3, 2018. Approval of the second recommended action will allow the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to conduct a runoff election on June 4, 2019 between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes cast in the March 5, 2019 special election in the event that no candidate receives a majority (50% + 1) of all the votes cast in the March 5, 2019 special election.
