SUBJECT: No Stopping signs on Maple Avenue, north of Central Avenue near the Cul-de-sac

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt Resolution authorizing No Stopping signs on S. Maple Avenue, north of E. Central Avenue near the cul-de-sac and direct the Director of the Department of Public Works and Planning to install said No Stopping signs.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will allow the installation of No Stopping signs at this location, which are appropriate due to a traffic engineering study. The signs will improve traffic flow and safety by prohibiting parking along Maple Avenue. This item pertains to a location in District 3.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

If the recommended action is not approved by your Board, the signs will not be installed on Maple Avenue.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. The estimated cost is $640 for materials and $190 for labor that will be performed by Department of Public Works and Planning personnel. Sufficient appropriations are included in the Department's Roads Org 4510 FY 2018-19 Adopted Budget.

DISCUSSION:

South Maple Avenue north of East Central Avenue is a paved county road south of Fresno, west of State Highway 99. The road is approximately 24 feet wide, has a traffic volume of 900 vehicles per day, and dead ends in a cul-de-sac at the north end. Northbound and southbound traffic is separated by a painted yellow line in the middle of the roadway. Currently, there are no parking restrictions along the entire road length.

Department staff has conducted a traffic study for this section of Maple Avenue. The study indicates that the installation of No Stopping signs along Maple Avenue through the cul-de-sac is necessary prevent stopped traffic, improve traffic flow, and traffic safety at this location.
