SUBJECT: Request Authorization for .Gov Domain Name
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve and authorize the Chairman to sign a letter of request to the Federal General Services Administration Office that the authority over the FresnoCountyJobs.gov domain name be delegated to the County of Fresno, California.
REPORT
The Internal Services Department is requesting authorization to add an additional domain name, FresnoCountyJobs.gov, which will provide an option to strengthen the County's brand with the public, and assist the County in job recruitment. The name may be used for email and/or Internet presence. This item is countywide.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
Your Board could choose not to authorize the registration of a .Gov domain name for the County of Fresno. This domain is in addition to the existing FresnoCountyCA.gov domain currently in use for the County's website.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. The fee for registering a domain name through the Federal Services Administration Office is $400 per year. Sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues are included in the Internal Services Department - Information Technology Services Org 8905 FY 2018-19 Adopted Budget and will be included in future budget requests.
DISCUSSION:
The recommended action before your Board will allow the Chairman to sign a letter of request to register for and receive authority over the proposed domain name, FresnoCountyJobs.gov.
Adding the FresnoCountyJobs.gov domain name adds legitimacy and credibility to County recruitment efforts. The branding can help the public to easily identify the County as the advertising employer when using this domain.
The Federal General Services Administration Office requires approval from your Board to register for the proposed domain name.
