SUBJECT: Agreement with Regents of the University of California on behalf of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for Longitudinal Integrated Fresno Experience (LIFE) Clinical Learning Experiences
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
TITLE
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute a retroactive Agreement with Regents of the University of California on behalf of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for the provision of clinical learning experiences as part of the Longitudinal Integrated Fresno Experience (LIFE) program, effective August 1, 2018 through June 30, 2023 ($0).
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will provide for UCSF to conduct the Longitudinal Integrated Fresno Experience (LIFE) program, which is an integrated clerkship designed to address the core competencies for Family and Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Psychiatry made available to UCSF third year medical students in order to obtain clinical learning experiences.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION:
There is no viable alternative action. Should your Board not approve the recommended action, UCSF medical students in the LIFE program will not obtain necessary clinical learning experiences. Additionally, the County will not benefit from the opportunity to engage students that may return as future employees.
RETROACTIVE AGREEMENT:
The recommended agreement is retroactive to August 1, 2018. Delays occurred due to contract negotiations taking longer than expected.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action, as there is no exchange of funds.
