SUBJECT: Award Contract No. 19-03-C, Watts Creek Bridge on Watts Valley Road Bridge Replacement Project
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt plans and specifications for Contract No. 19-03-C, Watts Creek Bridge on Watts Valley Road Bridge Replacement Project, Federal Project No. BRLO-5942 (248), receive verbal report on the bid opening, and award to the bidder with the lowest responsive bid.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will authorize the award of a Federally funded Highway Bridge Program (HBP) replacement project. This item pertains to a location in District 5.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
If the recommended action is not approved, the Watts Creek Bridge on Watts Valley Road Bridge Replacement Project (Project) will be delayed or will not be constructed.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. The contract construction cost is estimated to range between $1,357,000 and $1,500,000. The Project is 100% Federally funded through the HBP. Sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues are included in the Department of Public Works and Planning - Road Org 4510 FY 2019-20 Recommended Budget.
DISCUSSION:
The Project consists, in general, of replacing the existing Watts Creek Bridge on Watts Valley Road and realigning the approach roadways. The existing single span timber bridge will be replaced with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete slab bridge approximately 50 feet downstream from the existing bridge. The realignment of the approach roads will increase safety, as the winding nature of the road will be changed to allow for greater sight distance. The existing bridge will remain in place during construction to serve as an on-site detour.
