SUBJECT: Award Contract No. 19-17-C, Waterworks District 41W Asbestos Concrete Pipeline Replacement

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt plans and specifications for Contract No. 19-17-C, Waterworks District 41W Asbestos Concrete Pipeline Replacement, and award Contract No. 19-17-C to the low bidder, Dawson-Mauldin, LLC, 1071 E. Nebraska Ave., Selma, CA 93662 in the amount of $2,895,759.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will adopt the project plans and specifications and award a Waterworks District funded water improvement project (Project). This item pertains to a location in District 5.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

If the recommended action is not approved, the Project will be delayed.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. The anticipated construction cost, based on the low bid and including a reduction for a planned change order to remove a component of work, as well as an allowance for contingencies, is $2.9 million. The Project is funded by revenues collected from the residents of Waterworks District No. 41W (WWD 41W), Org 9361. Sufficient appropriations ($2.6 million) to fund the project through the remainder of this fiscal year are included in the Department of Public Works and Planning's Org 9361 FY 2019-20 Adopted Budget. Unspent amounts plus additional appropriations to fund the remainder of the project's construction will be included in the Department's FY 2020-21 recommended budget.

DISCUSSION:

The work to be done consists, in general, of installing 13,550 linear feet of water mains to replace the existing asbestos-cement water mains, as well as reconnecting existing service lines to the new mains, fire hydrants, and other appurtenant work within the WWD 41W water distribution system.
