RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):

TITLE

1.                     Adopt Resolution accepting and expressing gratitude for the monetary donation of $1,450 from the Woodward Park and Sunnyside Chapter of the Friends of the Library to purchase software for wireless mobile printing at the Woodward Park and Sunnyside Regional Libraries during FY 2016-17; and

2.                     Adopt Budget Resolution increasing the FY 2016-17 appropriations and estimated revenues for the County Library Book Fund Org 7521 in the amount of $1,450 (4/5 vote).

REPORT

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions.  The first recommended action is required to satisfy the reporting requirements under Chapter 762.12 of the CAO Management Directives for donations greater than $500.00 in value.  The approval of the recommended actions will allow the Library to accept a donation from the Woodward Park and Sunnyside Chapter of the Friends of the Library to purchase software for wireless mobile printing at the Woodward Park and Sunnyside Regional Libraries during FY 2016-17.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

Your Board may choose to not accept the donation from the Woodward Park and Sunnyside Chapter of the Friends of the Library.  Should this be the case, the Library will not purchase software for wireless mobile printing at the Woodward Park and Sunnyside Regional Libraries.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions.  Routine maintenance and electrical costs will be provided by the Library as part of normal library operations.  If approved, the donation will be accepted and the items will be purchased in FY 2016-17.  Approval of the second recommended action will increase the FY 2016-17 appropriations and estimated revenues for the County Library Book Fund Org 7521 in the amount of $1,450 to purchase software for wireless mobile printing.

DISCUSSION:

The Friends of the Woodward Park Regional Library and Sunnyside Regional Library are subsidiary chapters of the Friends of the Library.  The goal of the Friends of the Library is to support branch library operations.  They have done this by supporting library programs and special projects through the collection and sale of books donated by the public.

The Woodward Park and Sunnyside Chapter of the Friends of the Library would like to each contribute $725 for a total of $1,450 to purchase software to pilot wireless mobile printing at two regional libraries.  The Library has experienced increasing demand from the public for printing from mobile devices.  Additionally, the Library checks out laptops for use in the library, and, because they are not wired into the existing computer system, printing has been difficult.  Mobile printing would enable library users to send print jobs from either within a library branch via Wi-Fi or from any location via cell phone signal to receive and pay for their prints at the library.

The Library has chosen two of its busiest libraries, Woodward Park and Sunnyside Regional Libraries, as the test locations.  Once the wireless mobile print service is tested and verified that it will work well with the existing print system, the Library will plan to extend the service to additional branches.  Because the mobile print service is available as an add-on to the existing print system, the likelihood of success is high.
