DISCUSSION:

Pursuant to Section 16 of the Fresno County Charter, with your Board’s approval of the recommended action, the appointment of Kelley Landano to the position of Fresno County Librarian by the County Administrative Officer will be confirmed.  The appointment of Ms. Landano is recommended to be effective June 5, 2017, the beginning of a pay period.

Serving as the Interim County Librarian since February 2017, Kelley Landano was selected from a pool of applicants as being the best-qualified candidate through the recruitment and interview process for the Fresno County Librarian position.  Ms. Landano has a Masters of Library Science and Information.

Throughout Ms. Landano’s nineteen years of service in the Fresno County Public Library System, she has progressively promoted to positions of increasing responsibility such as Children’s Services Librarian to most recently the Associate County Librarian.

Ms. Landano has served as the Associate County Librarian for the past six years, overseeing Materials Handling, Public Services, Facilities Services, the Library’s Information Technology Division, and the Department’s Human Resource Division.  She has also provided oversight of the San Joaquin Valley Library System, a consortium of ten library jurisdictions throughout the Valley.

Ms. Landano has provided training to librarians throughout the State of California.  In 2005, she was selected by the Young Adult Library Association to be among fifty national participants in their Serving the Underserved program.  This program is designed to train participants on how to provide specialized library services for teenagers.  She has also served on the Infopeople Advisory Board and the Fresno City College Library Program Advisory Board for the past five years.

In addition, since February 2017, while serving as Interim Fresno County Librarian, Ms. Landano has overseen the Library’s budgets of approximately $30 million and a staff of 328.
