RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve formation of County of Fresno Economic Development Action Team (EDAT) Standing Committee with Structure, Objectives and Composition as outlined in Attachment A.
REPORT
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
Your Board may make changes to the recommended structure, objectives and composition or direct staff to make amendments to the recommended structure, objectives and composition and return to your Board at a future meeting for final approval.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended action.
DISCUSSION:
On June 6, 2017, your Board approved the formation of a County of Fresno EDAT as a one-year pilot after which staff would review and determine the effectiveness and ways to improve or continue with the EDAT. In addition, as discussed at that time, the purpose of the EDAT is to implement the three goals (Job Creation, Economic Base Diversification, and Labor Force Preparedness) as outlined in the Economic Development Element of the General Plan.
On June 20, 2017, your Board amended the structure of the EDAT to be a Standing Committee along with a reduction in the membership of the EDAT. In addition, your Board directed that the EDAT meet on an as needed basis to review specific issues/projects and that staff return with an item to formalize the structure of the EDAT.
On July 11, 2017, your Board directed the County Administrative Officer to consider the involvement of EDAT in policy discussions related to the General Plan in addition to projects specific to economic development when developing the objectives and composition of EDAT. Therefore, involvement in policy issues is included in the objectives.
