SUBJECT: Request Authorization for .Gov Domain Name
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve and authorize the Chairman to sign a letter of request to the Federal General Services Administration Office for the authority over the FresnoCountyCA.gov domain name to be delegated to the County of Fresno, California.
REPORT
The Internal Services Department is requesting authorization to add an additional domain name, FresnoCountyCA.gov, which will provide an option to strengthen the County’s brand with the public. The name may be used for email and/or Internet presence.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
Your Board could choose not to authorize the registration of a .Gov domain name for the County of Fresno and the current domain name will remain in place.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. The fee for registering a domain name through the Federal Services Administration Office is $400 per year. Sufficient appropriations are included in the FY 2017-18 Internal Services Department - Information Technology Org 8905 Adopted Budget and will be included in subsequent annual budget requests.
DISCUSSION:
The recommended action before your Board will allow the Chairman to sign a letter of request to register for and receive authority over the proposed domain name, FresnoCountyCA.gov.
Adding the FresnoCountyCA.gov domain name adds legitimacy and credibility to County communications. The branding can help the public easily identify the County.
The Federal General Services Administration Office requires approval from your Board to register for the proposed domain name.
