SUBJECT: Resolution Dissolving Fresno County Water Advisory Committee

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
TITLE
Adopt Resolution dissolving the Fresno County Water Advisory Committee.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action allows for the elimination of the Fresno County Water Advisory Committee (WAC). Based on staff's research, the need for the WAC no longer exists.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION:

No viable options are available. Should the Board not approve the recommended action, the WAC would still exist even though it is no longer active.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action.

DISCUSSION:

In response to the Clerk to the Board's request to verify the current status of all Boards, Commissions and Committees created by the Board of Supervisors, the Department of Public Works and Planning is recommending the Board consider and approve dissolution of the WAC.

The WAC was established in 1972, to advise the Board on water resource matters affecting Fresno County and to prepare advisory reports and recommendations on proposed or existing State and Federal legislation and regulations affecting water within the County. The WAC also evaluated issues that related to groundwater storage and recharge to maintain or increase the water supply in Fresno County. The WAC was active for many years following its creation; however, it has not formally met since 2015, due lack of having a quorum. Also, since the passage of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) in 2014, 15 Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSA) have been formed throughout Fresno County to address management of groundwater resources.
