SUBJECT: Budget Resolutions for Special Investigation Division Furniture Phase Two
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Adopt Budget Resolution increasing the FY 2017-18 appropriations for Federal Asset Forfeiture Org 1459 in the amount of $100,000 (4/5 vote); and
2. Adopt Budget Resolution increasing the FY 2017-18 appropriations and estimated revenues for Sheriff-Coroner Org 3111 in the amount of $100,000 (4/5 vote) for Phase Two of the purchase of furniture for the Special Investigation Division.
REPORT
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. Federal asset forfeiture monies totaling $100,000 are recommended to fund phase two of the cost to complete the replacement of office furniture for the Sheriff-Coroner’s Special Investigation Division (SID)/Narcotics Unit with new efficient modular furniture.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
If the recommended actions are not approved by your Board, the department will not be able to complete phase two to replace the SID’s aging furniture that is falling apart.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. Approval of recommended action No. 1 will increase the FY 2017-18 Operating Transfer Out appropriation in the Sheriff-Coroner’s Special Revenue Fund (SRF) Federal Asset Forfeiture (Org 1459) needed for recommended action No. 2 Operating Transfer In to the Sheriff-Coroner operating budget (Org 3111) to purchase office furniture for the Sheriff-Coroner’s SID/Narcotics Unit.
DISCUSSION:
On December 5, 2017, your Board approved phase one to purchase new modular furniture to replace aging furniture. The Sheriff-Coroner’s Office is returning to the Board of Supervisors to complete phase two. The purchase of the new modular furniture will be from the County approved vendor with an estimated cost of $100,000. Phase two is to complete the replacement of used desks that the Sheriff-Coroner’s SID Unit received from the Federal Bureau of Investigations over seven years ago and furniture from the County surplus yard that is falling apart. Federal Asset Forfeiture monies are received from the Department of Justice and United States Marshal from property seized during special narcotic investigations based on the Federal Equitable Sharing Agreement.
