DISCUSSION:

The presentation will provide your Board with an update on the continued efforts to form a Homelessness task force working towards a Homelessness reduction plan in the City of Fresno and Fresno County.  City of Mayor Lee Brand announced the formation of the Street 2 Home Fresno County program during the Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 State of the City luncheon.  The initiative will work with community organizations to provide services to people without a home.  The program will include organizations such as the Poverello House, Fresno Rescue Mission, Housing Authority and others along with many of the service providers and agencies now serving Fresno County.  Mayor Lee Brand has requested Supervisor Sal Quintero serve as Co-Chairman of the task force given the urban nature of District 3 and Mr. Quintero’s many years of involvement in community revitalization efforts at the City, and now the County.   The Task Force will continue to meet to formulate a formal final plan that will focus on finding people transitional and permanent housing while connecting them to services.

In May of 2018, the Fresno Madera Continuum of Care reported Fresno County’s number of homeless people increased by nearly 100 people from 2017, with about 1,800 people living without a home.  Of those, the unsheltered population consisted of approximately 1,500 people.
