SUBJECT: Appointment of John Adams as General Member Representative
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Cancel the General Member Election and Appoint John Adams as General Member Representative on the Board of Retirement for a three-year term expiring December 31, 2021.
REPORT
John Adams was unopposed as the General Member Representative on the Board of Retirement and may be appointed by your Board to service a term in lieu of an election.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
There is no viable alternative action.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with the recommended action.
DISCUSSION:
In accordance with Government Code section 31525, the Board of Supervisors established rules for the Retirement Board election process. These rules were adopted on November 25, 1969 and amended on October 30, 2001, March 1, 2005, August 11, 2009 and again on December 8, 2015 and state the following:
“If any candidate duly nominated is unopposed for the election at the close of nominations, the Board of Retirement shall so certify to the Board of Supervisors, who shall declare the election cancelled and appoint said candidate to the Retirement Board.”
The Board of Retirement on July 18, 2018, certified that Mr. Adams was duly nominated and was unopposed for election for the General Member Representative on the Board. The term commences January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2021.
