SUBJECT: Salary Resolution Amendment
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Approve amendment to the Salary Resolution adjusting the auto allowance for appointed Department Heads, effective April 22, 2019, as reflected on Appendix “A”.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action would amend the Salary Resolution to increase the auto allowance for appointed Department Heads (not including Elected Officials) from $513 per month to $650 per month.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
If your Board were not to approve the recommended action, the auto allowance would continue at its current rate.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total estimated cost of the recommended action for the remainder of FY 2018-19 is approximately $9,914 ($4,328 in NCC). The total estimated cost increase for FY 2019-20 is approximately $33,682 ($14,679 in NCC); sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues are included in the adopted FY 2018-19 budgets for each affected department and future increases will be included in subsequent budget requests.
DISCUSSION:
The auto allowance for Department Heads was last increased on December 10, 2001. Since then, the California Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers has increased by 52%. Human Resources conducted a survey of the auto allowances offered by comparable counties in the Central Valley and found that Fresno County was behind average. The recommended increase in the monthly auto allowance will make the County more competitive in regards to this benefit.
