SUBJECT: Retroactive Applications for FY 2019-20 Boating Equipment Grants
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Retroactively authorize the Sheriff's Office previous submittal of a grant application in the amount of $139,261 to the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation Division of Boating and Waterways for a new patrol vessel; and
2. Retroactively authorize the Sheriff's Office previous submittal of a grant application in the amount of $15,699 to the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation Division of Boating and Waterways for vessel repaint and dry suits.
REPORT
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. The grant applications were submitted to the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation Division of Boating and Waterways on March 29, 2019 to meet the application deadlines, contingent upon your Board's approval. If awarded, the Sheriff's Office will return to your Board to request approval of the equipment agreement and the funding will be used to replace one of its five lake patrol boats, repaint three patrol boats, purchase and install new decals on those three boats, and purchase eight swift water rescue dry suits. This item is countywide.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
If the recommended actions are not approved, the equipment grant application will be withdrawn, which will result in the loss of a new patrol vessel, upkeep of the three patrol boats and new dry suits for the Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit to use for operation needs.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. The overall total of the equipment grant applications for FY 2019-20 is $154,960 for a new patrol vessel, upkeep of three patrol boats and purchase of swift water rescue dry suits.
