SUBJECT: Probation K9 Unit Vehicle Purchase Budget Resolutions

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Adopt Budget Resolution increasing FY 2018-19 appropriations and estimated revenues for Probation Org 3430 in the amount of $42,000 to fund the difference between a standard police vehicle and a Chevrolet Tahoe for the K9 Unit (4/5 vote); and

2. Adopt Budget Resolution increasing FY 2018-19 appropriations for Federal Asset Forfeiture Org 1142 in the amount of $42,000 (4/5 vote).
REPORT
There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions as all associated costs will be funded with Federal Asset Forfeiture Funds. The Probation Department's current K9 Unit vehicle is due for replacement. The additional funds will be used to replace the vehicle with a 2019 Tahoe Identifier that will include upgrades necessary for the K9 Unit. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

If the recommended actions are not approved, the Probation Department will not be able to receive an appropriate vehicle for its K9 Unit.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. Approval of the recommended actions will fund the difference between a standard police vehicle and a Chevrolet Tahoe Identifier (Tahoe) for the K9 Unit. Funding for the K9 vehicle replacement will be fully offset with Federal Asset Forfeiture Funds. Funding for a 2019 Charger, which is a standard police vehicle, is included in the FY 2018-19 Fleet Services Org 8911 Adopted Budget as a replacement vehicle. The Department is requesting to purchase a Tahoe instead of the standard vehicle, which costs an additional $42,000. Fleet Services Org 8911 has sufficient savings to cover the additional $42,000.
