TO: Board of Supervisors
SUBMITTED BY: Margaret Mims, Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator
SUBJECT: Sheriff's Vehicle Purchase
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt Budget Resolution increasing FY 2020-21 appropriations and estimated revenues for Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator Org 3111 in the amount of $235,000 for the purchase and up-fitting of prisoner transport and non-patrol vehicles (4/5 vote).
REPORT
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with this action. The Sheriff's Office will receive accumulated proceeds from the sale of surplus Sheriff vehicles and is expecting $70,000 that can be used to purchase replacement vehicles. Additionally, this purchase will utilize $165,000 of Federal Inmate reimbursement funds. Using these funding sources, approval of the recommended action will allow the Sheriff's Office to purchase three prisoner transport vehicles and two non-patrol vehicles. This item is countywide.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
The County can defer the purchase of replacement vehicles; however, this delay will likely result in higher maintenance costs and fewer future vehicles purchased as costs for new vehicles will continue to escalate.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with this action. This vehicle purchase will utilize proceeds expected in February 2021 from the sale of surplus vehicles in the amount of $70,000. Additionally, $165,000 from the Federal Inmate reimbursement funds received will be utilized for this purchase. Approval of the recommended action will increase the FY 2020-21 appropriations in the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Org 3111 in the amount of $235,000 and estimated revenues in the amount of $235,000 for the purchase and up-fitting of vehicles. Operating costs for the replacement vehicles are included in the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Org 3111 Adopted Budget for FY 2020-21 and will be included in future budget requests.
