SUBJECT: Sheriff's Vehicle Purchase
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt Budget Resolution increasing FY 2021-22 appropriations and estimated revenues for Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator Org 3111 in the amount of $99,358 for the purchase and up-fitting of non-patrol vehicles (4/5 vote).
REPORT
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with this action. The Sheriff's Office will receive accumulated proceeds from the sale of surplus Sheriff vehicles and is expecting $99,358 that can be used to purchase replacement vehicles. Using this funding source, approval of the recommended action will allow the Sheriff's Office to purchase two non-patrol vehicles. This item is countywide.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
The County can defer the purchase of replacement vehicles; however, this delay will likely result in higher maintenance costs and fewer future vehicles purchased as costs for new vehicles will continue to escalate.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no additional Net County Cost associated with this action. This vehicle purchase will utilize proceeds from the sale of surplus vehicles in the amount of $99,358. Approval of the recommended action will increase the FY 2021-22 appropriations and estimated revenues in the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Org 3111 in the amount of $99,358 for the purchase and up-fitting of vehicles. Operating costs for the replacement vehicles are included in the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Org 3111 Adopted Budget for FY 2021-22 and will be included in future budget requests.
DISCUSSION:
The Sheriff's Office maintains a fleet of prisoner transport vehicles, patrol, and non-patrol vehicles to provide a law enforcement presence for the unincorporated areas of the County's 6,000 square miles.
