SUBJECT: Maintained Mileage of Fresno County Roads

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt and authorize Chairman to execute a Resolution revising the number of miles of maintained Fresno County roads as of December 31, 2022, as approximately 3,479.676 miles, and authorizing and directing the Director of the Department of Public Works and Planning or his designee to transmit a copy of the adopted Resolution to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Approval of the recommended action will certify the County's maintained road mileage as of December 31, 2022, as approximately 3,479.676 miles. This represents an increase of approximately 1.15 miles from 2021. The Resolution is required annually pursuant to California Streets and Highways Code, Section 2121. Assuming your Board's adoption of the recommended resolution, (a) the Department will submit the resolution to Caltrans, and (b) the Department expects that Caltrans will incorporate the maintained mileage adjustment, as stated in the resolution, into future funding distributions. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

There is no viable alternative action.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. However, transportation funds distributed by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) are allocated based on a formula, which includes the mileage maintained by each local agency, such as the County. As a result of the increase in the County's maintained mileage, there could be a minimal increase in Road funds that the County receives from the State.

By May of each year, the State of California, through Caltrans, requires each County to certify, by resolution, the length of County maintained roads, as of December 31 of the previous year. For the calendar year ending December 31, 2021, ...
