SUBJECT: Confirm Appointment of Fresno County Librarian
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Confirm appointment of Sally Gomez, effective April 29, 2024, to the position of County Librarian pursuant to Fresno County Charter Section 16.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will confirm Sally Gomez as the County Librarian. This item is countywide.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
Your Board could choose not to confirm the appointment.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. Sufficient funding is included within the Library's Org 7515 FY 2023-24 Adopted Budget.
DISCUSSION:
Pursuant to Section 16 of the Fresno County Charter, with your Board's approval of the recommended action, the appointment of Sally Gomez to the position of Librarian by the County Administrative Officer will be confirmed.
Sally began her career in the Fresno County Public Library almost 20 years ago and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position. She received her bachelor's degree in mass communication and journalism locally at California State University, Fresno and continued on to receive a master's degree in library information and science from San Jose State University.
Sally brings a unique perspective to the role as she has worked her way up from an entry level Librarian. She has been in a supervisorial position since April 2016 when she began supervising as a Supervising Librarian. Her role became increasingly managerial as she was promoted to a Principal Librarian in August 2018 and an Associate County Librarian in December 2019.
Currently, Sally has been overseeing the Fresno County Library as the Interim County Librarian since October 2023. Her hard work and dedication have allowed her to work up through the Department and gives her a background that will be beneficial to the library's continued growth wit...
