SUBJECT: Agreements for Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Grant Program Activities
RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
1. Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute an Agreement with California Health Collaborative, for healthy retail and worksite nutrition education services, effective January 1, 2017, not to exceed five consecutive years, which includes a three-year base and two optional one-year extensions, total not to exceed $599,250.
2. Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute an Agreement with Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, for nutrition education in classrooms and afterschool programs, effective January 1, 2017, not to exceed five consecutive years, which includes a three-year base and two optional one-year extensions, total not to exceed $714,000.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended Agreements will allow the Department of Public Health to continue activities for the Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention (NEOP) grant program provided by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Contractors were selected through a competitive bidding process to provide community engagement and nutrition education services to low-income County residents. The Department will continue efforts to build internal and community capacity to address health disparities in the County, with no Net County Cost.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):
There is no viable alternative action. Should your Board not approve the recommended actions, the Department would be unable to complete NEOP services as stipulated by the CDPH.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended actions. The recommended agreements with California Health Collaborative ($599,250) and Fresno County Superintendent of Schools through its Office of Education (FCOE) ($714,000) are funded by the NEOP grant provided by CDPH.
