SUBJECT: California Department of Housing and Community Development Transitional Housing Program Round Two Allocation

RECOMMENDED ACTION(S):
TITLE
Adopt Resolution authorizing the Department of Social Services application for and acceptance of the Round Two allocation in the amount of $116,000 for the Transitional Housing Program administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
REPORT
Approval of the recommended action will allow the Department of Social Services to complete an allocation acceptance process with the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to receive the allocation designed to assist transitional-aged youth, ages 18-25, to secure and maintain housing, with priority given to young adults formerly in the foster care or probation systems. The application must be submitted to HCD by November 12, 2020. This item is countywide.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S):

Your Board could choose not to approve the recommend action; however, the Department will not receive the allocation earmarked for the County to assist with housing services for transitional-aged youth, leaving the funding to be redirected to other counties in California.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no increase in Net County Cost associated with the recommended action. If the recommended action is approved, the Department will complete the allocation acceptance process to receive an allocation totaling $116,000 for the Transitional Housing Program (THP). The allocation would be in addition to the Round One allocation of $116,000. Funding for the THP will be available through June 30, 2023. Sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues will be included in the Department's Org 5610 FY 2021-22 budget request.
